Moderator:  William “Buddy” Gillespie

 William ‘Buddy’ Gillespie is Director of Healthcare Solution at Distributed Systems Solutions (DSS).  Mr. Gillespie’s position is a critical part of the company’s continued efforts to develop a core focus on Healthcare IT Solutions, and set the stage for future growth. His responsibilities include direct consulting with clients, assessing and improving healthcare solution offerings, helping drive the DSS brand into the healthcare community, and initiating relationships with hospitals and practices for future business development.

Previously, Mr. Gillespie was Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at WellSpan Health (retired), an integrated delivery system based in York, Pennsylvania. WellSpan Health serves the health care needs of more than 500,000 people in south central Pennsylvania. WellSpan has been named a Top 100 Most Wired and a Top 25 Best Connected health system five-years running.  In 2006, WellSpan received the Courion Vision Award for its strategic approach to Identity Management.  In 1999, and again in 2002, WellSpan was recognized by Cerner as a Top Five Recipient of the PowerChart Innovation Award.


 Susan McGann RN, BSN, MBA, MBB

Graduate of the University of Delaware with a bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, McGann began her career in the inner-city Emergency Departments in Philadelphia, PA. She obtained her Master of Business Arts from Drexel University where she currently teaches in the MBA program in the LeBow College of Business. Her courses have included such topics as Leadership and Professional Development, Leading Effective Organizations and Strategy and Competitive Advantage.  McGann was among the nation’s first healthcare Six Sigma Master Black Belts. She has led comprehensive efforts to drive the methodologies of Six Sigma, DFSS (Design for Six Sigma), LEAN, CAP (Change Acceleration Process) and WorkOut. McGann has been responsible for deployments, curriculum development, education, project results, mentoring and fiscal accountability.  Currently, in her role as CEO of Pivotal Solutions, LLC McGann is focused on providing organizations with an approach to tools and process improvement that is tailored and unique to each individual company or organization and spans from the CEO to entry level employees. Additionally Pivotal Solutions is focused coaching leaders and executives who are attempting to transform their organizations. McGann has held positions such as Chief Nursing Officer, Chief Performance Officer and Director of Strategic Partnerships all of which have allowed her to grow and learn.

 Susan’s consulting practice, Salkowitz Associates, LLC, includes physician-based projects in New Jersey: the Alpha Project at The Institute of Medicine & Public Health of NJ, Medical Society of NJ, and the  Patient Centered Medical Home Pilot Project for the NJ Academy of Family Practice, PCMH Transformation Consultant for NJ Horizon Healthcare and New Jersey HITEC. Immunization Information Systems ( IIS), maternal and child care case management, public health surveillance, chronic disease management and health information exchange in over 15 state and local jurisdictions.

 Thompson H. Boyd, III, M.D., FACHE, CHCQM, CPHIMS, CPHM has been a practicing physician in Internal Medicine for over 24 years, and then in 2007 went to work full-time at Hahnemann University Hospital in 2007, as the Physician Liaison. Hahnemann has been in a CPOE environment for over 25 years. For three years, Hahnemann was attained the “fully implemented” CPOE status from the Leapfrog Group. The Hospital also designed their own Medication Reconciliation Application, maximizing on workflow, usability, and stakeholder communication tools and their own Electronic Discharge Form incorporating core measures.

 Working in Utilization Review in the hospital since 1994, appeals to a multitude of payers and other entities have been prepared substantiating severity of illness and intensity of service – including a few appeals to the ALJ (Administrative Law Judge). In 2008, clinical and compliance related input was provided when the hospital went live with an “Observation Program” which sought to improve documentation aligning with federal programs with regards to coding, compliance, and medical necessity.  Since 2010 he has served on the Board of the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians.

 Service with HIMSS has included membership with two year appointments on the Privacy and Security Steering Committee, with the Public Policy Committee, and now in its second year with the Clinical & Business Intelligence Committee, serving as a liaison back to the Public Policy and Privacy and Security Committees. Membership has continued, now starting five years with the Privacy and Security Task Force. For the past three years, he has served on the HIMSS Public Policy Awards & Asks Workgroups. Over the past five years questions have been submitted for the CPHIMS examination and two years ago questions were submitted along with statistical evaluation of the newly formed CAHIMS Credential.
