$3 million for local Railroad Improvement Projects
PennDOT will allocate nearly $3 million for two rail improvement projects in Coatesville and Modena, said State Sen. Andrew Dinniman.
The projects, which are funded through PennDOT’s Rail Transportation Assistance Program and Rail Freight Assistance Program, will be:
Arcelor Mittal Plate, LLC will receive $2.8 million in RTAP funding to rehabilitate a bridge and replace a track in Coatesville and Modena.
The Chester County Economic Development Council will receive $171,990 in freight assistance funding to construct a new 200-foot rail siding in the Mogreena Industrial Complex to serve Waste Oil Recyclers, Inc.
“These projects are two great examples of how investments in our rail freight network can help stimulate economic development and job growth,” Dinniman said. “In addition, improving and updating our rail infrastructure increases safety by easing traffic on our local roads and highways.”
The freight line runs from Coatesville south to Wilmington along the Brandywine Creek to larger rail lines.
