Science and Medicine Discovers Camp for Ages 12-13

July 22, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

$499

Introducing scientific vocabulary at an early age helps children boost their verbal skills and greatly helps their ability to understand science in future course. This program is designed to provide a foundation in science and healthcare for students who enter the STEM Innovation Healthcare Summer Academy track in middle school. Students explore basic science and medical terms associated with anatomy of the human body. Age appropriate curriculum provides students with the opportunity to learn the history of medicine from civil war to present day practices. Students are introduced to medical equipment such as stethoscopes, sphygmomanometers, and otoscopes and learn the role the equipment plays in diagnose and treatment of medical conditions.

Students learn about cell structure, basic functions of the body, and fundamentals of good health. The simulated learning activities include introduction to the stethoscope, counting beats for a pulse, and role-play medical professions. Students dissect organs to explore anatomy, use simulated blood to discover DNA, and meet animals to learn about veterinary medicine. We believe that young students learn best by doing, so our lectures combine teaching with engaging activities. Our team of medical professionals and Pre-Medicine Counselors are committed to providing students with a fun and engaging learning experience.
